January 2022

To all our Parkside Supporters want to run or walk a Marathon then this challenge is for you!

I wanted to find out if we had any Parkside Heroes out there who would like a place in the London Virtual Marathon. You might remember we had two runners who completed this challenge locally for us and raised an impressive £1300!! We would love to smash that record can you help?

This year’s London marathon and Virtual marathon will be Sunday 2nd October. The virtual event is for runners or walkers that can complete a 42km/26.2miles course in their own chosen local area; they also give you 23 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds to complete! You can use this almost 24 hours to spread your challenge out; I read a story of a lady who did 1.1 mile an hour! There are lots of ways you could do rise to the challenge get your family and friends to join you in parts of your route or make it a family and friend group challenge . Or find a large outdoor space that you can do circuits on and invite people to join you for sections. You might want to work out a route that means something to you landmarks that will spur you on. If you work, you might ask your business colleagues to form a team and make a real team building challenge.

This event is a lovely opportunity for smaller charities like us so please give it some thought. If you complete you get a London marathon t-shirt and finishers medal! Runners are also issued with a vest runner’s number and phone app to help with training, on the day recording of your distance, everything they do for London runners; you just don’t have to travel to London!

I would love to secure Parkside spaces again and would welcome anyone interested to come forward. However, the places are on a 1st come 1st served basis and we must pay £28 per entrant so we are looking for lovely people who could raise a minimum of £200 per entry. We have small window of opportunity to secure places so if anyone is serious about this challenge or has friends or family looking for a challenge like this and to raise some money for Parkside then please can you get back to me by Tuesday 1st February THANK YOU!

Thanks for taking the time to read this wishing you all a happy and healthy 2022!

November 2020

Many of you will be aware of the annual tradition of the Rotarian Christmas Float that visits many of our local areas collecting for good causes. Here at Parkside we have enjoyed our annual Christmas collection route around the roads near us in Aldershot. Through the cold, wind, rain we have sang carols and watched the delighted faces of all the children meeting Santa. Sadly this year due to Covid19 they have had to take the difficult decision to cancel the float collections. It is unfortunate as this tradition has been going for over 50 years; however they hope that a Rotarian will take out the float and drive through the usual routes playing festive music and hopefully encouraging the public to donate to all the causes online.
Donations can be made to the Rotarian website or Facebook
www.rotary-ribi.org/clubs/homepage.php?ClubID=859 or www.facebook.com/aldershotrotary

COVID-19 doesn’t stop our Wednesday Dance off, with or without masks, we had fun!

August 2020

What a hot day for a visit to the Garden project. Sarah and Jackie had a lovely meander with David who has been looking after it. Jackie loves the new seats around the pond and can’t wait to get back with the group and paint them. What with the new pond water feature and the sprinkler system working its all looking green and verdant in the garden!

A recent visit was made to our Garden to see how our amazing volunteer David had been doing in the midst of the Covid19 situation. David has been kindly looking after the garden project whilst we have been unable to use it. Sarah Jones who looks after the service said “the ladies who attend the Garden Group will be blown away with the array of veg and fruit. We can’t wait for the group to return and see how well the project they started is doing”. Watch this space for a Parkside fruit and veg stall coming at the end of summer! Below are just some of the pictures taken of the produce!
