June 2021 – Useful Information Easy Read
Did you know, NHS and local authority leaders in Hampshire and Southampton have been working together to review the county’s learning disability services – with the aim of designing a sustainable community service, reducing health inequalities for people with a learning disability.
The attached document is the eighth regular bi-monthly update on this project. They have created it in an easy-read format to meet the needs of service users.
Previous updates can be found on their website here: https://www.southernhealth.nhs.uk/services/learning-disabilities/get-involved/transforming-learning-disability-services/

As services return Parkside is full of noise and laughter again. Below are a selection of ‘Stars of the Week’ we are thrilled that everyone has enjoyed coming back and seeing friends and taking part in activities!
Spring has sprung! lovely pictures from our super volunteer David who has looked after the garden project throughout the pandemic. I am sure the group will be thrilled to see the daffodil bulbs they put in have now flowered.

Exciting news!! we have confirmation that we have been allocated a few charity spaces for the London Marathon Virtual run which will be held alongside the London event which this year is Sunday 3rd October. Runners that get a place on the virtual event still complete a full marathon, but they do it locally to where they live on a course set by themselves. Runners are all given an entry number and there will be technical support to record the run. However, runners have 23 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds to complete!! If you would like to raise money for Parkside and would like to find out more email firstname.lastname@example.org You get a London Marathon T-shirt and winners Medal. It’s a brilliant way for smaller charities to get involved in this famous event!
Wishing Hayley a very happy lockdown birthday. We all sang to Hayley on Zoom and she showed us her pretty new watch. Hayley is having pizza & birthday cake this evening to celebrate. Enjoy Hayley!!

Many of you will be aware of the annual tradition of the Rotarian Christmas Float that visits many of our local areas collecting for good causes. Here at Parkside we have enjoyed our annual Christmas collection route around the roads near us in Aldershot. Through the cold, wind, rain we have sang carols and watched the delighted faces of all the children meeting Santa. Sadly this year due to Covid19 they have had to take the difficult decision to cancel the float collections. It is unfortunate as this tradition has been going for over 50 years; however they hope that a Rotarian will take out the float and drive through the usual routes playing festive music and hopefully encouraging the public to donate to all the causes online.
Donations can be made to the Rotarian website or Facebook
www.rotary-ribi.org/clubs/homepage.php?ClubID=859 or www.facebook.com/aldershotrotary
The FAB Cafe will be re-opening Monday 12th October with reduced opening. The Cafe will be open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday 10 – 2pm each day. We will be offering a reduced menu, but the Cafe will still be delivering the work experience programme for our young people.

COVID-19 doesn’t stop our Wednesday Dance off, with or without masks, we had fun!
What a hot day for a visit to the Garden project. Sarah and Jackie had a lovely meander with David who has been looking after it. Jackie loves the new seats around the pond and can’t wait to get back with the group and paint them. What with the new pond water feature and the sprinkler system working its all looking green and verdant in the garden!
The Youth Group took a little walk with their colourful distance sticks and all have a good understanding of what 2m distancing looks like. Matthew was very happy to see B&Q open and hopes they will go in, sometime in the future.
Lisa sent this screen-shot of some of the PIP Youth making masks and having a great time, well done to all the Zoomers!
A recent visit was made to our Garden to see how our amazing volunteer David had been doing in the midst of the Covid19 situation. David has been kindly looking after the garden project whilst we have been unable to use it. Sarah Jones who looks after the service said “the ladies who attend the Garden Group will be blown away with the array of veg and fruit. We can’t wait for the group to return and see how well the project they started is doing”. Watch this space for a Parkside fruit and veg stall coming at the end of summer! Below are just some of the pictures taken of the produce!
Today saw a safe return with some of our PIP Youth. They are making their own 2 metre distancing ruler. K said hers was a poking stick and C said hers was a tickling stick. They look great enjoy your day, really good to see you all enjoying yourselves…….
