July 2023

Over the past few weeks, the Garden group has been fortunate enough to be invited to visit two gardens. Ramster Gardens near Chiddingfold boasts the largest national collection of rhododendrons. The gardens are truly vast and they only managed to walk through half the grounds. Stacey and Jackie were taken by all the magnificent colours of the rhododendrons, while Derek was impressed with the network of dense branches they formed. Everyone loved the large reflective pond and chose to sit beside it for a little longer than usual, soaking in its beauty and peacefulness.

Chinthurst Lodge was the second garden we visited near Guildford, which is also open to the public in the NGS scheme. We were treated to delicious homemade cakes and teas alongside the white garden which was full of beautiful white roses in their full splendour. The gardens were beautifully kept and had several animal sculptures dotted around. Derek and Heather were debating whether one of these sculptures was a sheep or a hedgehog. Hilary, our host, and owner of the property gave them some Hollyhocks and succulents plants to grow in our garden.
